Boulder City Fathers Day Car Show for Veterans

Post by Jack » Tue Jun 19, 2018 3:48 pm

Father’s Day 2018 was a special day for residence of the Boulder City Veterans Home, classic car owners and myself.
Boulder City Pan Draggers & Boulder City Cruisin Association held their Annual Father's Day Car Show at the Veterans Home and I now understand why they do it each year.

By the time I got there, several cars were already parked and ready for the show. After a few more pulled in, I headed up to see what was going on.

Once up in the parking lot, you could see residence coming out to look at the cars, some walked with assistance from family or nurses and some were in wheelchairs, no matter their mode of transportation, they were all making their way out.

I first took some shots of the cars and then I just stood back and watched the people. It was so heartwarming to see the look on faces as they passed by the cars. I feel safe in saying that some had very fond memories of time past and how seeing a particular car may have brought those memories back to light.

One woman was interested in a red Bel Air and a blue Cadillac. I could hear her asking to get pushed over closer to both. She continued telling her assistant something, but I couldn’t hear. I do believe it may have been stories as she had the biggest smile on her face as she talked.

One gentleman, who seemed somewhat uninterested as he rolled himself through the line of cars, suddenly stopped and turned around and then went over to an old station wagon. That was the 1st time I had seen him smile while I watched him.
I also noticed a few residences that stopped down where they had remote controlled planes and helicopters. Since some of the planes were replicas of military aircraft, I am sure the owners of the planes also got to hear a few stories.

Many times at car shows, I see the owners just sitting by their cars as spectators pass by, while this time, most owners were right up to answer questions and talk to the spectator’s (residence).

I spoke with one car owner who mentioned one of the ladies was dressed in her Sunday best and he commented to her how nice she looked and it too brought a huge smile to her face.

I am sure the owners enjoyed hearing the stories, seeing the smiles, answering questions or just being able to have a moment to say hi.

This was more than just a time to show off a car, it was a small part of 1 day where owners got to give back. A few hours to brighten the day of people they didn’t know.

So a HUGE thank you to Boulder City Pan Draggers and the Boulder City Cruisin Association for putting on the event, the Veterans Home, all the assistance that helped the residence get out to see the cars and the car owners who gave time to make this event a success.

For those of you who don’t know me, I do not own a cool car, nor am I part of a car club, I just video events to share with others and I will say this event was amazing. We all know a veteran and it only takes a little piece of your time to say thank you.
